How can we be Champions of Peace

For the last four weeks of Term 3 we were learning about ‘How we can be Champions of Peace.

Firstly we learnt about the different symbols of peace. Some of these are the olive branch, a dove and the peace sign.

These symbols represent peace because In the Bible the story of Noah´s ark a dove with an olive branch returned after the flooding to show peace and hope and that why they are the symbols of hope and peace.

With these symbols in mind I created a Peace Artwork.

We also researched some real life champions of peace and wrote a short biography. I wrote about Michael Jordan and how he became the basketball prayer he was. I think he is a champions of peace because he was so inspiring and he donated lots of money to charities in north carolina.

We also created a peace prayer book. I have attached my peace prayer book here.

I enjoyed learning about peace because it helped me to be more peaceful and to help people in need. I learnt that peace can come in many different forms like environmental peace and world peace but peace has one goal and it is to make everyone love each other.

One way I plan on being a champion of peace is by donating money to the homeless and sick and helping my parents.

How to predictions

This week for reading we were learning about predictions.

We had to make predictions about what happened in the story called Boy on a Bike. First we had to look at the front cover and look at the pictures and title and  make predictions about what you can see what is it about.

When you are reading look carefully at the pictures and the words.

Have you ever had to predict something before?

Tiled floor

This week we had to make a tiled floor pattern. The pattern we need is 6 different shapes and 6 different colours and we had to make it symmetrical. Symmetrical is when you cut it in half and it is the same. Tell me two things that are symmetrical?

Science experiment

In Science we have been learning about electricity. We had to make a Buzzer beep with 4 nails, jar with salt and tap water. Some words I learnt were renewable energy and non-renewable energy. One of the experiments we did was Bettery power.

Materials you needed is.

  • 4 nails: 2copper and 2 zinc
  • Buzzer
  • Beaker labelled T full of tap water
  • Empty specimen jar
  • Jar with salt
  • Plastic spoon
  • Empty beaker labelle S (for discard salty water)
  • Several tissues
  • Sudent handoyts: niled it!

My Hypothesis is that it wont work because how is salt and water going to make a buzzer beep.

After finishing my experiment I found out that my hypothesis was incorrect bacause we add more salt and water and it started to beep.

If I was to do this experiment again or something similar I now know that to add more salt and have 2 different nails.

Something I found challenging was finding out what to do if it didn’t work.

What science experiments have you done?

Poetry Blog

Kia ora,

Over the first few weeks of Term 3 we have been reading and writing all different types of poetry. Please enjoy reading my poetry.

I discovered that a List Poem is a poetic form that presents ideas, images, or emotions through a series of items or descriptions. It was interesting to learned about how people if you stay over the years and here is my poem about List Poem.

Ball bounceis, loud and fast.

Hoops shoot, miss or dunk.

Teams is mates, fun, collaboration.

Dribbling moving the ball to the hoop.

I learned that a Limerick is a humorous five-line poem with a distinctive rhyme scheme and a bouncy rhythm. I also learned that 1, 2 and 5  have to rhyme and 4 and 3, I enjoyed makeing the poem with my friends and here is my poem about Limerick.

1 I am on the mat.

2 with my big orange cat.

3 the cat had a fit.

4 he just wouldn’t sit.

5 so he put on his little black hat.

I discovered that Blackout Poetry is the art of selectively erasing words from existing texts to create new poetic compositions. It was interesting to learn about the history of the poem and  make designs when they do it here.

I really enjoyed writing these poems my favourite was the list poem because it was fun to write.

What is something new you learned about poetry from my blog?

Porridge pot

This week we had to make a ticket and a poster for are porridge show. The show is going to be amazing and we have music, dancing and drama. The rehearsals have been very good people already have their costumes.

Will you come and watch the porridge pot?

My word art

This week for prayers we made a Word Art to show all the things that we are grateful for. This is a cool way of doing prayers and it would be somthing that I would like to do again.  These are the things that I am grateful for in my life. I am so lucky that I have all these wonderful people and things in my life.  What are you grateful for? Have you used Word Art before?

PBL Reflection Blog

Over the course of term one we have looked at the question: How can we help build a resilient community? We are using something called The Resilience Project to understand simple tricks to make our lives better. I have learnt that  there are three main ways to help boost our happiness and help us to enjoy life to the fullest and they are gratitude, empathy and mindfulness, these tricks help me and my friends to be happier than ever.

The whole school had a showcase evening to look at all the students’ creations and learn more about The Resilience Project.

Here is an invite I made to our PBL

For the showcase evening I worked with Leo, Bronson and Alex. We decided to create a short video/movie because we wanted to show people how gratitude is one of  lifes greatest qualities and how if you show gratitude you can be happy with any amount of money you have.

I now know more about what the resilience project is and how I can use it in my life to be happier. Throughout the creating process I felt like I did really well collaborating with my group and working together with my friends to create a great video to watch. If I was to do this again, next time I would try my best to do better at coming up with ideas and ways to add to our presentation.

Have you ever used trick to be happier?
